Happy Drums
My Work
I work consistently with groups that support families with young children, or people who are isolated and lacking full access to resources. The projects below highlight some of my work around community outreach and engagement.
Projects
Happy drums inclusive music workshops provided music dance sessions to families who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those who have physical or mental disabilities.
After the lockdown the workshops help to bring the community together. Children 0 - 4 years old were encouraged to improve their languages, literacy, numeracy, attention, concentration and listening skills. Feedback showed that each workshop had a good impact on their intellectual development., especially children with learning difficulties.

Participants Feedback:
"At first he was finding it difficult to join the Drum circle, but when he had seen other children having fun he joined in playing and singing. The workshops helped the families to socialize with each other. The workshops have encouraged him to play more music at home.”
The Drum Club
After lock down families were concerned about taking their children out and interacting with other people. Many felt their children social skills had dipped and their confidence levels have dropped. Many also struggled with the restriction of being in doors all the time.

The Drum music workshop was a good fun interactive activity that encouraged local families to get over lock down anxiety. The workshops encourage families to embrace, learn and celebrate cultural heritage of families within the community.

Jenny: “The benefit of the sessions for children are the social impact, they further develop their communication and language through songs. Also they enjoyed playing the drums and musical instruments and they have been encouraged to continue playing music.”
